How to create a SharePoint Team Site without a Microsoft 365 Group

- Updated:

Creating a new SharePoint Site inside the SharePoint Admin Center gives you several options.
Predominantly, you can make a “Team Site” or “Communication Site”. A team site always includes the creation of a Microsoft 365 Group, while the communication site options do not create such a group. There is also a third option, which sometimes gets overlooked.

As the name suggests, the “Browse more sites” option on this page gives additional options, such as “Team Site”, “Document Center”, “Enterprise Wiki”, “Publishing Portal”, and “Content Center”. While this seems like the “classical” SharePoint options, the Team site has a well-kept secret.

It creates a modern team site without the Microsoft 365 group, which is sometimes unnecessary.
