In the recent blog post, I showed why it is useful to have specific images without a background as a PNP. What if you have pictures, but those images have a background attached, and you like to get rid of this background?
Well, you can ask one from the marketing team to probably do the job for you. There is an easy way that every user can do. The only tool you need is PowerPoint, Word, Excel or any other Office application.
Import image to PowerPoint
PowerPoint is more a graphic design tool, so it makes to choose it to remove the background. The first thing is to start with an empty canvas, aka blank presentation template.
Step two to remove the background of an image is to change the layout to a blank slide. You can also remove the textbooks that are on the title screen of the presentation; it doesn’t matter. Now your canvas is ready, and you can insert the image on this canvas.
The trick now to remove the background is hidden in the first icon on the picture toolbar. “Remove background” try to identify the background automatically and highlight it in magenta.
If you the result do not fully convince you, you can tweak the image a bit. You can add more or remove transparency by drawing over the image. You don’t have to be super specific any only need to highlight certain areas that you want to be added or remove from the image.
Once you perfected your image this way, you can accept your changes and apply the changes to your vision.
How to get the image as PNG
Now that we released the image from the background to get this modified version of the picture, the last thing is to export it out of PowerPoint again. Right-click and select “Save as Picture” will do the trick here.
PowerPoint automatically proposes to save it as PNG and includes a transparent background. Now you can upload this picture to SharePoint, and it is ready to use.
